Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentives

Under Title XIII of the Health Information Technology (HITECH) section of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009, eligilble healthcare professionals and hospitals have the potential to receive incentive payments from Medicare and/or Medicaid for demonstrating meaningful use of a certified electronic health record (EHR) technology. The government's EHR incentive payment program is not mandatory, however, penalties for non-participants will begin in 2015.

  The Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs will provide incentive payments to eligible professionals, eligible hospitals and critical access hospitals (CAHs) as they adopt, implement, upgrade or demonstrate meaningful use of certified EHR technology.
