Cabinet for Health & Family Services Commissioner joins University Health Care, Inc. dba Passport Health Plan

Louisville, KY – Shannon Turner, current Commissioner for Medicaid Services in the Kentucky Cabinet for Health & Family Services, will join University Health Care as Associate Executive Vice-President.

“Considering Shannon’s successful track record and her recent work with state government, we feel fortunate to have her joining our team,” said Dr. Larry N. Cook, Chairman of the Board and CEO of University Health Care.  “We know that Shannon shares our commitment to operating a patient focused plan.”

University Health Care is a licensed HMO that operates Passport Health Plan, the Region 3 Medicaid Managed Care Plan.  Turner will serve as the company’s liaison with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.  She will also serve as the University Health Care representative on the Kentucky Association of Health Plans Board, a position she previously held during her employment with Bluegrass Family Health.

In addition, Turner is in line to succeed current University Health Care Executive Vice-President Robert Slaton when he retires.

“University Health Care epitomizes the values necessary for moving health care forward- a patient-centered focus with dedication to quality and customer service. I’m honored to be joining such an outstanding team”, Turner said about the career move.

Prior to joining the Kentucky Cabinet for Health & Family Services, Turner was employed by Bluegrass Family Health in Lexington as Director of Governmental Affairs.  In that role she administered the regulatory compliance, legislative affairs and appeals functions of the managed care plan.
