| Louisville, KY - The
Kentucky Public Health Association, Inc., an independent, voluntary
organization dedicated to promoting maintenance and improvement for
the protection of the health of all Kentuckians, awarded Passport Health
Plan The KPHA Group Award. This award is given to a group or organization
that has contributed to the progress of a health agency or program
and has enhanced the health status of the people in the Commonwealth
of Kentucky. The award was presented at the Kentucky Public Health
Association’s statewide meeting on April 1 at the Executive West
in Louisville.
Garland Van Zant, President of the Kentucky Public Health Association
said, “The Kentucky Public Health Association is dedicated
to improving the health status of all Kentuckians. We’re pleased
to present this award to Passport Health Plan for their work on behalf
of those most in need of health care services. Passport’s efforts
have resulted in marked improvements in areas like immunization rates,
number of required well child visits, and appropriate use of medications.
They are a wonderful partner in public health.”
Dr. Larry N. Cook, Chairman of University Health Care’s (Passport)
Board of Directors and Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics for
the University of Louisville School of Medicine said, “We attribute
o ur success to the many physicians and other health care providers
who have dedicated themselves to making this health plan work. They
serve on committees that oversee the development of policies related
to all medical management and quality issues. I thi nk this proves
that provider sponsored health plans can work very well by improving
the health care of Medicaid patients in Kentucky.”

Passport Health Plan provides Medicaid managed care services for
over 120,000 members in Jefferson and the 15 surrounding counties.
Counties of service include Breckinridge, Bullitt, Carroll, Grayson,
Hardin, Henry, Jefferson, Larue, Marion, Meade, Nelson, Oldham, Shelby,
Spencer, Trimble, and Washington. UHC, Inc. contracts with AmeriHealth
Mercy Health Plan of Philadelphia to administer the program. The
National Committee for Quality Assurance recently designated Passport
as receiving excellent accreditation. Passport Health Plan is owned
